Homes With This Color Bathroom Sell For $5,400 More: Zillow

I was reading Marian McPherson's article on Inman News today. As a real estate professional, I find this hard to believe, but apparently a home with a blue bathroom sells for $5,400 more. My guess is that it's about as accurate as a Zestimate, but Zillow does the research and this is what they found.

Turns out homes with a bathroom painted powder blue or a periwinkle shade sold for $5,400 more - that's the highest sales premium of all colors analyzed. How do they analyze? Probably an algorithm like how the Zestimate is created.

“Color can be a powerful tool for attracting buyers to a home, especially in listing photos and videos,” said Zillow chief economist Svenja Gudell. “Painting walls in fresh, natural-looking colors, particularly in shades of blue and pale gray not only make a home feel larger, but also are neutral enough to help future buyers envision themselves living in the space.

“Incorporating light blue in kitchens and bathrooms may pay off especially well as the color complements white countertops and cabinets, a growing trend in both rooms."

Here are some of the other results:

The study concludes that homes with white walls (what we suggest) sell for $4,035 less. Interesting since of the homes we sold last year, 70% were record breaking sales. We do stage homes though and allow for the home to be well presented by beautiful art and furnishings. We do know that homes that are staged sell for more.
